2022-2023

Cool Science Competition Honorees

In memory of our late colleague David, we are honored to name this year's David Lustick Winner. The David Lustick Winner is someone who embodies the youthful and optimistic spirit of the Cool Science program.

Congrats to Rayne, a sixth grader from East Boston, the Massachusetts David Lustick Winner!

Congrats to Tvisha, a fourth grader from Oakland Park the Kansas David Lustick Winner!

During the Fall of 2022, the 11th annual Cool Science Extreme Weather Art Competition received entries from over 350 K-12 students in Massachusetts, Kansas, Missouri, and other locations answering the following challenge questions:

  • How might your experience with extreme temperatures be different from kids in other places around the world?

  • Draw someone who is getting ready for flooding where you live.

  • Draw a public transportation system (like buses & trains) that keeps working in a severe storm.

After a careful and thorough evaluation process, the Cool Science team selected 24 entries that will be displayed this spring on buses in MA and KS to educate commuters and the public about extreme weather.

Cool Science is proud to present the honorees for 2022-2023. Thanks to all the teachers, mentors, and parents who helped students learn about extreme weather and express their ideas through art. We hope you enjoy the artwork!
